The New Zealand Sikh Youth hosted a special question and answer session with the Jathedar of the Akal Takhat, Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, providing young Sikhs with a unique opportunity to engage directly with head of the Sikhs on a range of community issues.

Held at the Takanini Gurdwara Sikh Library, the session featured questions submitted anonymously by youth, which were then asked directly to the Jathedar. The format encouraged open, honest and respectful dialogue, allowing participants to raise important and often challenging questions.

Discussion topics included the authority of the Akal Takhat and the role of the Jathedar, the function of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), concerns surrounding centralisation within Sikh institutions, the prevention of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and broader issues affecting Panjab and the global Sikh people.

Addressing the gathering, Jathedar Gargaj commended the awareness and engagement of Sikh youth in New Zealand and encouraged them to remain connected to Sikh values, pursue education, contribute positively to society and maintain unity within the community. He also emphasised the importance of learning Gurmukhi Panjabi and preserving a distinct Sikh identity.
